JAKARTA - Candidate for vice president (cawapres) number 3, Mahfud MD responded to the discourse of public officials, including ministers, to resign if they participated in the 2024 presidential election.

"Yes, I just follow the rules. It's okay for a lot of people to push us back, there must be a lot of pushing there, and so on," said Mahfud at the Diocese Wisma Cathedral, Jakarta, Thursday, January 4, which was confiscated by Antara.

Mahfud, who is also the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam), said he would follow morality believed in serving as a minister and also as a vice presidential candidate.

"We just follow our teachings and morality which guide us to use that position for what," he said.

Previously, in one of the private television programs, Friday, December 29, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that the government has the opportunity to evaluate regulations regarding leave for ministers who run for the presidential election after the 2024 election.

According to Ma'ruf, it is better for ministers who run as presidential or vice-presidential candidates to resign from their positions in government.
