Beatings In Demta District Papua Almost Picu Clashes 2 Villages, Police Falls Mediation

JAYAPURA - Jayapura Resort Police (Polres) reconcile the two warring groups in Demta District, Jayapura Regency, Papua.

Demta Police Chief Iptu Ishak David Okoka said the mediation of two groups from Yaupgapsa Village and Muris Besar Village was related to the beating case which resulted in injuries and material injuries.

"Almost sparked a dispute between the two villages, namely Yaupaksa and Muris Besar, so that the police moved quickly to mediate the commotion case that occurred on Tuesday (January 2) 2024 night," he said in a statement, Thursday, January 4, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said the mediation process took place at the Demta Police Headquarters on Wednesday, January 3.

Ishak said that the clash between the two groups of different villages began with the persecution of the perpetrator with the initials WY and his friends against the victim AP (25) during a preliminary event (cultural ceremony).

While molesting the victim up to eight stitches to the head, the perpetrators were under the influence of alcohol.

He added that the victim and his friend at that time were watching a suling event when they saw their colleague being beaten. When they were about to intervene, the victim was beaten by a mob from Muris Besar Village. The commotion also almost sparked a dispute between villages for revenge.

"We will immediately mediate so that the problem can be resolved with the perpetrators agreeing to pay the medical fee for the victim in the amount of Rp. 5 million and the cost of repairing two motorbikes amounting to Rp. 2 million," he said.

He also thanked the tribal chiefs, religious leaders and ondoafi as well as the people of the two villages who were able to hold back so that this problem could be resolved properly.

"Thank you to parents of tribal chiefs, religious leaders and ondoadi as well as the people of the two villages who helped solve this problem until it ended peacefully," he said.
