The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) EMPHASIZED That Harun Masiku Never Got Information That Harun Masiku Had Died

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the fugitive, Harun Masiku, was still alive and on the run. They have never received information that the former PDI-P legislative candidate (PDIP) has died.

"So far there has been no such information (died, red)," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters quoted on Wednesday, January 3.

"Because the information has not been received, the search for Harun will be carried out," said Ali. The arrest is a target to resolve the bribery case that also ensnared former General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan. We make sure the KPK continues to look for and arrest Harun Masiku," he said.

Meanwhile, a different opinion was conveyed by the Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman who was pessimistic that the KPK could arrest Harun Masiku. He claims to have information that the former candidate has died.

"The opportunity (to arrest Harun Masiku, ed) is only 30 percent. I am sure he has died," said Boyamin when confirmed.

Boyamin said he never got any information about Harun's whereabouts. This condition is different from other fugitives from the anti-corruption commission who were finally arrested.

He even assessed that the KPK was tricking or playing games by ensuring the search for Harun Masiku. "Except the KPK can really catch it," he said.

As previously reported, the KPK recently looked serious looking for Harun Masiku. One of them is by examining former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan on Thursday, December 28.

During the investigation, Wahyu was not only questioned about Harun's whereabouts. Investigators had asked about the bribery incident that occurred in January 2020.

Meanwhile, Wahyu, after being questioned, said he had explained everything he knew about Harun's bribery. However, he could not tell where Harun Masiku was because he did not know.

"Yes, if I know, I will arrest him, help the KPK," Wahyu told reporters at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, December 28.

He hopes that Harun can be caught and tried soon. Wahyu objected that the bribe could still roam even though he had been sentenced to prison.

It is known that Harun Masiku is a suspect in giving bribes to former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan. This gift was given so that he could sit as a member of the DPR through interim shifts (PAW).

He has been on the wanted list (DPO) since January 29, 2020. Most recently, the KPK informed that the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol Indonesia had issued a red notice on behalf of Harun Masiku on Friday, July 30.
