Director General Of Immigration Holds Foreigner Supervision Operation Ahead Of New Year And Elections

The Directorate General of Immigration held a surveillance operation for Jagratara foreigners in the context of securing Christmas 2023, New Year 2024 and General Elections (Pemilu) and the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada). The operation began on Thursday, December 28 involving Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement officers (Inteljakim) in Immigration technical implementing units (UPT) throughout Indonesia.

"Operation Jagratara was carried out as an effort to prevent and anticipate possible national security disturbances in the face of Nataru 2023/2024, the presidential and regional elections in February 2024," said Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement, Saffar Muhammad Godam in a media statement, Friday, December 29.

a. Eight Australian citizens and RRT allegedly had discrepancies between residence permits and activities carried out, which were found by the Bali Immigration Division Officer and the Class I Immigration Office of TPI North Jakarta;

b. Citizens of Russia, Pakistan and Nigeria overstay (staying beyond the stay permit limit), which were found by Bali Immigration Division Officers, Class I Immigration Office Non TPI Pemalang and Class I Immigration Office Non TPI Bogor.

"Foreigners suspected of violating Immigration Law have been followed up by each technical implementing unit with further examination," added Godam.

In addition to carrying out control of the implementation of Operation Jagaratra, the Directorate General of Immigration also succeeded in securing 30 foreigners suspected of committing immigration violations on Wednesday, December 27. The arrested foreigners consisted of 28 Indian citizens and two RRT citizens.

Twenty-eight Indian citizens were secured at around 10.30 WIB from a shophouse in the Sunter Agung area, North Jakarta. They are suspected of carrying out activities that are not in accordance with the residence permit used, namely operating a manufacturing production machine to make jewelry from silver raw materials.

The residence permits that are owned include a limited stay permit (ITAS) for investors as many as 18 people, ITAS for working as many as six people and a residence permit for visits (ITK) for four people.

Meanwhile, two RRT citizens were secured at around 17.35 WIB in an apartment in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area, North Jakarta. The security was carried out as a development for the case of 13 People Wanted Lists (DPO) of the RRT Police who had been deported on December 20 and 21, 2023.

When met, the two RRT citizens were unable to show their passport or residence permit. Thus, the officers took the two foreigners to the Directorate General of Immigration for further investigation.
