JAKARTA - Shanghai Disney Resort launched a Zootopia-themed attraction for the public last week, along with the public's desire to travel and experience in China increased after the pandemic.
Zootopia, which premiered in Chinese theaters in 2016, is still one of the highest-grossing imported animated films ever released in the country. This theme attraction officially opened on December 20.
This marks Disney's first Zootopia-themed site and the eighth-themed area at the Shanghai Disney Resort which opened in 2016, then expanded in 2018 with a Toy Story themed attraction.
Although consumption in the Bamboo Curtain country has been slow to bounce back after the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions last year, public interest in domestic travel and experience has increased, with the Shanghai Disney Resort as one of the most popular.
"I think what you've seen over the past year when people are free from the virus is, they come out and experience life again," said Joe Schott, president and general manager at Shanghai Disney Resort.
"This theme attraction will bring animation films and their characters to life through innovative entertainment, merchandise, food and beverage offerings," the management said in a statement, quoted from SCMP.
Visitors can board any terrain cruiser powered by a traceless travel system, in a full pursuit of action through various districts in Zootopia, as well as some new-themed entertainment experiences and character moments.
"Shanghai Disney Resort, as one of the important tourist destinations in the city, attracts thousands of visitors every day and this new attraction will help increase traffic both short-term and long-term," said Shanghai CEO Yaheng International Travel Li Wenjie.
"The opening of this new tourist attraction is also in line with Shanghai's efforts to increase its tourism sector," he added.
