JAYAPURA - The family of the late former Papua Governor Lukas Enembe apologized for the burning of a number of shophouses in Jayapura City when a convoy of bodies from Sentani headed to Central Koya, Jayapura City on Thursday.
"On behalf of the family, I apologize deeply for all the events that occurred," said Yunus Wonda, the family representative of the late Lukas Enembe in Jayapura, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, December 29.
According to Wonda, his party expressed his gratitude to all Papuan people who had received the body of the late Lukas Enembe well in Jayapura.
"However, we deeply regret that there were several incidents in Sentani, Waena and Abepura which resulted in the beating and destruction of shop houses as well as restaurants and offices as well as several vehicles," he said.
He explained that the incident was certainly beyond the thinking, plans and scenarios of the family because it had previously been regulated according to church directions and the decision of the Synod of the Indonesian Evangelical Church (GIDI) Papua.
"So once again on behalf of our family, we apologize because we want peace and warmth from all Papuan people in delivering the body of the late father Lukas Enembe from Sentani to Koya," he said again.
The Deputy Chairperson I of the Papuan House of Representatives (DPRP) added that the family wants all funeral processes for the late Lukas Enembe to run well and be responsible with full peace.
