JAKARTA - The United Arab Emirates Authority (UAE) sent more than 1.6 million pieces of warm clothing and blankets to the Gaza Strip, to help ease the suffering of residents in the Palestinian enclave, which is grappling with a prolonged conflict in the middle of winter.
The aid convoy is overseen by the Red Crescent Emirate, the UAE government's humanitarian agency, as part of the 'Be their Warmth' campaign, according to a WAM state news agency report, quoted from The National News December 29.
The important supply, which will be distributed in stages, is expected to provide protection against a cold, biting temperature amid the continuing Hamas-Israeli war.
The head of the ERC Delegation in Gaza Mohammed Omar Al Shimmar said the UAE was working with Egypt to secure the delivery of aid packages through the Rafah border.
The ERC has launched a public donation fundraising to collect more important winter items as part of the initiative.
The UAE itself has repeatedly called for a permanent ceasefire to protect civilians.
Earlier this month, the UAE established a field hospital in the Gaza Strip. Earlier, President Sheikh Mohamed directed treatment for 1,000 injured Palestinian children and 1,000 cancer patients at hospitals in the UAE as part of an aid campaign, in addition to sending dozens of relief flights carrying thousands of tons of critical supplies to support Gaza.
