Mahfud Surprised Cak Imin's Plan To Build 40 Cities On The Level Of Jakarta: Can It Be 5 Years?

JAKARTA - Candidate for Vice President number three, Mahfud MD, was shocked by Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin's statement regarding his desire to build 40 cities at the level of Jakarta.

Mahfud asked whether the construction of 40 metropolitan cities could be achieved in just 5 years according to the President and Vice President's period.

"I am a bit surprised that I also want to build 40 cities at the level of Jakarta. Yes, can you hold it for 5 years as President and Vice President? How many cities in 5 years?" asked Mahfud in the second debate of the 2024 presidential election specifically for vice presidential candidates at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Central Jakarta, Friday, December 22.

Mahfud also compared it with the construction of one metropolity city, namely the capital city of the archipelago (IKN). Where, its implementation takes quite a long time.

"Ini IKN saja sudah puluhan tahun baru dilaksanakan, itu pun yang investasi baru dalam bentuk janji. Belum ada yang melaksanakan, nah gitukan," sebutnya.

Not only that, Mahfud also questioned the funding of the construction of 40 cities at the level of Jakarta. "Then brother 40, in my opinion, 40 cities at the level of Jakarta that have been metropolitan like that. Then also the financing according to Mr. Muhaimim, if later we for 40 cities, the financing is the APBN or APBD or a special institution like that, which was asked by panelists through moderators. This needs to be answered first so that everything is not speculative," said Mahfud.

As previously reported, the candidate for vice president number 1, Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin, said that he and presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, if they win the 2024 presidential election, promised to build 40 new cities at the level with Jakarta.

"We have one determination that in the upcoming government, at least 40 new cities must be built at the level of Jakarta," said Cak Imin.

Dozens of new cities, said Imin, will provide the ability to accommodate the population, provide adequate facilities and infrastructure, as well as the ability to maintain a healthy environment, including a life that provides comfort for the entire population.

"Where housing is not too far from work centers, where access to education can reach what is needed," he continued.
