Don't Worry, Jokowi Says The Political Situation Ahead Of The 2024 Election Is Different From 2014 And 2019

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo emphasized that Indonesia's situation in the political year ahead of the 2024 Simultaneous Election should not be worried, especially for business actors. "I emphasize, there is nothing to worry about. If you read social media, watch TV, debate between politicians, yes, it seems that the atmosphere is hot. But, if you, ladies and gentlemen, go to the community, to the village, to the regions; Ladies and gentlemen, you can feel that people are relaxed," Jokowi said at the "Indonesian Economic Outlook" event in Jakarta, Friday. According to Jokowi, Indonesia's political conditions ahead of the 2024 General Election are in a cool atmosphere and much different from the 2014 and 2019 elections he participated in. "I think it's very far (the situation) when compared to (the election) 2014 and 2019. It's very different. This means that our society is an adult in politics, the hot ones can be cooled immediately and those who are divided slightly by little can reunite," said Jokowi. The Indonesian KPU has received registrations for three presidential and vice presidential pairs for the 2024 presidential election, namely Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, and Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The Anies-Muhaimin pair was promoted by the NasDem Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and the Ummah Party. The Ganjar-Mahfud pair was promoted by the DPI Perjuangan, the United Development Party (PPP), the Perindo Party, and the People's Conscience Party (Hanura). Meanwhile, the Prabowo-Gibran pair were promoted by the Gerindra Party, the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Democratic Party, the Crescent Star Party (PBB), the Gelora Party, the Garuda Party, and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), and the People's Fair and Prosperous Party (Prima) who did not qualify to participate in the 2024 General Election.

The Indonesian KPU has set an election campaign period from November 28, 2023 to February 10, 2024, while the vote is scheduled for February 14, 2024.
