JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) commemorated the 499th anniversary (HUT) of the City of Jakarta, Monday, June 22. This year's celebration is an important marker because the capital city is only one step away from entering the age of five centuries in 2027.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung claims that this year's Jakarta Anniversary commemoration is not merely a ceremonial agenda. According to him, the momentum towards the age of five centuries must be used to strengthen the collaboration of all elements of society in building a more competitive Jakarta at the global level.

"Towards the five centuries of Jakarta, the momentum of today we interpret not only as an annual celebration, but also a cross-generational effort to realize Jakarta as a global and cultural city. To all residents of Jakarta, I advise, never lose optimism about this city. Because history has taught us that Jakarta always rises without leaving its citizens," said Pramono at the Monas area, Central Jakarta, Monday, May 22.

Pramono said that Jakarta is currently in an important transition phase. Not only as a city that will enter its 500th year, but also as a city that is undergoing transformation towards a global city.

"Today, at 499 years old, Jakarta is at the gate to five centuries. A journey that invites us to take a moment to look back to the past, see how far we have progressed, and at the same time look at the future of Jakarta with hope and confidence," he explained.

In the midst of global economic uncertainty due to the escalation of geopolitics in various regions of the world, Pramono assessed that Jakarta was still able to maintain economic stability. According to him, Jakarta's position as a center of national economic activity makes the capital city remain one of the main pillars of Indonesia's growth.

"Jakarta's economy grew 5.59 percent with a contribution of 16.67 percent to the national economy," he said.

In addition to maintaining economic growth, the DKI Provincial Government also claims to continue to prioritize programs that directly touch the needs of residents. Starting from the distribution of KJP Plus for hundreds of thousands of students, KJMU assistance for students, diploma whitening programs, to job creation through the labor-intensive program.

In the transportation sector, Jakarta is also preparing a number of projects that are the backbone of urban mobility. A number of mass transportation and intermodal integration developments are being rushed as part of preparations for a global city.

"Starting from the preparation for the operation of the LRT Phase 1B Velodrome-Manggarai, the construction of MRT Phase 2A, to the construction of the pedestrian deck in the TOD Dukuh Atas area which has been integrated," said Pramono.

Not only transportation infrastructure, the DKI Provincial Government also continues to arrange a number of strategic areas such as Old Town, Blok M, Pasar Baru, Glodok, and Chinatown. These areas are projected to become new economic growth centers as well as more lively public spaces for residents.
