JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) stated that the fire that occurred in a restaurant kitchen in Menteng, Central Jakarta, was caused by the remains of embers from a meat grill.

Kasiops Suku Dinas Gulkarmat Jakarta Pusat Triyanto explained that the fire occurred at the Steak & Bakery Building, located at Gang Indramayu RT 02/RW 05, Menteng District, Central Jakarta on Monday (20/7) afternoon. The incident allegedly occurred from the "grill" embers that were sucked through the chimney.

"According to information at the location, when the employee was cleaning the meat on the grill, the remaining embers were sucked into the kitchen's air flow until the fire then grew," said Triyanto as reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 20.

Triyanto explained that the fire report was received by officers through the 112 emergency service at 17.55 WIB.

One minute later or at 17.56 WIB, two fire units were dispatched as an initial deployment to the location.

Officers arrived at the scene at 18.00 WIB and immediately began a one-minute extinguishing operation.

To speed up the handling, the number of fleets was then increased to six units involving 30 personnel.

The fire was successfully localized at 18.35 WIB, while the cooling process began at 18.50 WIB to ensure that there were no remaining fire points and prevent the fire from reoccurring.

Triyanto said the cause of the fire was believed to have come from the remnants of the roasting device which hit the chimney, triggering a fire in the kitchen area.

Until the cooling process takes place, officers are still at the location to ensure that the condition is really safe.

Meanwhile, the estimate of losses due to the fire is still being recorded.

"The fire burned an area of the kitchen of about 100 square meters. However, there were no casualties or injuries in the incident," he said.
