Christmas-New Year Holiday, Passenger Flow At Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya Increases 20 Percent

SURABAYA - The flow of passengers using ships at Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, East Java, increased by about 20 percent ahead of the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year holidays.

Head of the Main Port Authority and Port Authority (KSOP) Office, Tanjung Perak Surabya Capt. Heru Susanto said the 20 percent increase was in the same period in 2022.

"As of December 18, 2023, the flow of passengers on ships that disembark or ride through the Port of Tanjung Perak Surabaya is 22,010 people or an increase of 20 percent compared to the same period last year," said Heru Susanto, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 21.

The average per day of passenger embarcation and debarcation processes at Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya reaches more than 5 thousand people, compared to the usual days which recorded around two thousand passengers.

Heru estimates that the flow of ship passengers through Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya will reach a peak of more than 8 thousand people on December 23 or D-2 Christmas 2023.

"KSOP Utama Tanjung Perak has made preparations for passenger services, among others, by implementing e-ticketing. Also registering potential fleets whose readiness is through the ship's feasibility test to ensure its facilities and infrastructure," he said.

KSOP has tested the feasibility of sailing as many as 40 ships from six shipping operators serving passengers at Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya.

KSOP also involved the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) which was alerted at the Gapura Surya Nusantara Terminal Command Post, Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya.

"In order to facilitate coordination with other related parties in case of bad weather that endangers shipping safety during the Christmas and New Year holidays," said Heru.
