Because Cigarette Profits Have Not Been Turned Off, One House In Kramat Jati Is On Fire

JAKARTA - A fire occurred in a house on Jalan Chain Timah, Central Village, Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta, Thursday, December 21. Ironically, the cause of the fire was due to the burning cigarette butts.

Head of the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept., Gatot Sulaeman, explained that the fire that occurred at around 12.17 WIB was suspected to have been caused by a cigarette butts in the living room of the house.

"The statement was that the owner of the house had a guest, leaving the cigarette butts still burning. After the midday prayer, when the fire had grown," said Gatot when confirmed, Thursday, December 21.

Residents around the location had tried to extinguish independently using the nearest water source from the location, but unfortunately the effort was unsuccessful because the fire was getting bigger.

In a short time the flames from the living room spread to all sections of the house covering an area of 400 square meters and almost spread to other buildings.

"The neighbor hit the first part of his room, but we can localize the fire (preventing wider fire propagation)," he said.

The East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. also deployed 14 fire engines with 56 personnel to extinguish the red rooster.

There were no casualties in the incident, but the loss was estimated at Rp1.2 billion due to the extent of the buildings and affected goods.

"Earlier we started the blackout at 12.28 WIB, finished at 13.49 WIB. For residents whose houses were affected by the fire, one family head (KK) consisted of eight people," he said.
