Aceh MPU Chair Haram Golput In The 2024 General Election

BANDA ACEH - Chairman of the Aceh Ulama Consultative Council (MPU) Tgk Faisal Ali stated that the legal prohibition of people who are part of the Gliput (white class) or do not vote in the 2024 election.

"Because choosing a leader in Islam is a mandatory law, if the goal is not to vote, then the law is haram," said Tgk Faisal Ali, in Banda Aceh as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 18.

The cleric, who is familiarly called Lem Faisal, said that the attitude of the Aceh MPU was the same as that of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) which had forbidden goal in the election.

He said, the legal basis for this illegal Golput itself is based on the Ijtima' Ulama fatwa fatwa fatwa in Indonesia concerning Masa'il Asasiyah Wathaniyah or national strategic issues that have been set on January 26, 2009 with the title Use of Vote Rights in General Elections.

In the fatwa there are five items, one of which reads that choosing a leader who does not meet the requirements as a point four or deliberately does not choose even though there are candidates who meet the legal requirements is haram.

"The MUI field chooses a fatwa like that based on Islamic views choosing a mandatory leader so that if it does not produce a legal leader, it is haram, including a goal," he said.

Therefore, he hopes that people will exercise their right to vote, and not abstain from choosing a leader in the 2024 election, because the presence of a leader is very important.

"Although the leader we choose does not match what we expect, but rather than not, the leader will be worse or have many more problems," said Lem Faisal.
