Former GAM Prime Minister Re-elected As Wali Nanggroe Aceh

ACEH - Former GAM Prime Minister Tgk Malik Mahmud Al Haythar was re-appointed as Wali Nanggroe Aceh 2023-2028. This is Malik's third term leading the Aceh traditional stakeholder.

"Since the first 2013, this is the third time I have devoted myself to being a symbol of unifying and peace in Aceh in the context, wisdom, history and culture," said Tgk Malik Mahmud in Banda Aceh, Friday, December 15, which was confiscated by Antara.

In the inauguration procession which took place at the Aceh DPR Special Plenary Meeting, Tgk Malik Mahmud carried out his own inauguration as Wali Nanggroe Aceh.

This moment was also attended by former 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla and former Minister of Law and Human Rights as well as Chairman of the Indonesian Government's Running Juru in the MoU Helsinki Hamid Awaluddin peace process.

The re-electment of Tgk Malik Mahmud as Wali Nanggroe Aceh was carried out by deliberation and consensus by the High Council of Wali Nanggroe, Tuha Paut, Tuha Lapan, and the fatwa assembly.

Malik said Wali Nanggroe's institution is one of the implementations of Aceh's specialities and privileges based on the MoU Helsinki peace agreement and articles in Law Number 11 of 2006 concerning Aceh Government (UUPA).

"I continue to make efforts to be internal and other works. Work for the process of implementing the Helsinki MoU," said Malik.

On that occasion, Acting Governor of Aceh Achmad Marzuki prayed that Allah SWT made it easier for Tgk Malik Mahmud to carry out his mandate as a unifying of the Acehnese people, guardians of peace, builder of the splendor of Islam, and the preservation of traditional life, culture and Tamadun Aceh.

According to him, the presence of the Wali Nanggroe institution is a mandate and an order of the provisions of the UUPA so that its existence must be grateful.

"Hopefully in the future we can continue to play a role in development, unite the people of Aceh, preserve customs and culture," he said.

"We are grateful because so far we have given considerations, guidance, suggestions and suggestions in carrying out the wheels of Aceh's government, especially in maintaining the privileges and characteristics of Aceh," added Achmad Marzuki.
