JAKARTA - The interim chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango revealed that there was a new phenomenon among officials that occurred during the 2023 period. Many of them went viral for showing off their wealth and ended up being caught in a corruption case.

"In 2023, a new phenomenon, flexing, showing off the wealth of government officials on social media has been responded to by the public by comparing their state administrators' wealth reports (LHKPN)," said Nawawi at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.
Nawawi said this report could indeed be accessed freely by the public. When the wealth of this official went viral, many checked until finally the practice was exposed.
"Some lead to disclosure of corruption cases," he said.
This phenomenon then made Nawawi ask the government, especially President Jokowi, to pay special attention. The trick is to give a warning to officials who do not obey and honestly report their wealth.
"Mr. President can give a warning to those who do not convey the LHKPN on time, complete with a power of attorney and correct its contents," he said.
As a reminder, there were three corruption cases that ensnared officials and initially started showing off their assets on social media. The first is former Directorate General of Taxes Rafael Alun Trisambodo.
Rafael's assets were in the spotlight after his son abused him. The anti-corruption commission then moved to carry out an investigation until finally it was found that there were allegations of receiving gratuities and money laundering (TPPU).
