The Temporary Village Government Of Rohingya Refugees On The Basis Of Humanity

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy said the Indonesian government accommodated Rohingya refugees on humanitarian grounds. "So we actually accept that their presence is just a humanitarian consideration," said Muhadjir in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, December 11. According to him, the government is only moving on humanitarian grounds. He also hopes that the good done by the government will not be misused by certain parties. "But if the humanitarian considerations have been misused, they will be used by certain parties, in an irresponsible way, yes we will be able to act hard to reject it," he said. Muhadjir emphasized that Indonesia has no ties with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Therefore, the refugees will be returned to the institution concerned for handling. Meanwhile, regarding the alleged Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO), the government will take firm action against any perpetrators who take advantage of this condition. "We, right, already have a Presidential Decree for the TIP. So for the prevention of trafficking in persons and the perpetrators have also been arrested. We will act decisively in relation to this Rohingya refugee," he said. President Joko Widodo said that the government accommodates temporary Rohingya refugees who enter Indonesian territory. "I say that we will temporarily accommodate it," said the President.

According to the President, the Indonesian government is still discussing the solution to the problem of handling Rohingya refugees with relevant international organizations, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee Affairs (UNHCR). Discussions on the handling of Rohingya refugees include social problems that arise in communities in areas visited by Rohingya refugees such as Aceh, Riau, and Medan.
