Speaking With President Putin, PM Netanyahu Condemns Russia-Iran Cooperation

JAKARTA - The Israeli Prime Minister's Office said Russian President Vladimir Putin and PM Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip, Palestine when the two spoke on the phone on Sunday.

In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office said Benjamin Netanyahu expressed disappointment with Russia's position of representative at the United Nations against Israel.

"Netanyahu condemned Russia's dangerous cooperation with Iran," the statement said.

The Israeli prime minister also stressed that any country affected by terrorist attacks such as Israel would act as strongly as Israel's actions, the office said.

Meanwhile, citing Reuters, Russia supports UN Security Council resolutions for a ceasefire in Gaza, which the United States vetoed on Friday last week.

The Kremlin says Russia is ready to provide all possible assistance to ease the suffering of civilians and reduce the escalation of the conflict.

"(President) Vladimir Putin reiterated his principle position of rejecting and condemning terrorism in all its forms," the Kremlin said in a statement.

"At the same time, it is imperative that countering terrorist threats does not have serious consequences for civilians," the statement continued.

Separately, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Sunday said international monitoring missions should be sent to Gaza to monitor humanitarian situations.
