Indramayu District Court Rejects Suspension Of Detention Of Panji Gumilang

The panel of judges at the Indramayu District Court (PN) has decided not to grant the suspension of Panji Gumilang's detention as a defendant in the alleged criminal act of blasphemy, so that his detention at the local correctional facility (prison) continues.

"Yang untuk (pengajuan) pengambahan dirasakan belum ada urgensi. Ya (un diterima)," kata Juru Bicara PN Indramayu Adrian Anju Purba di Indramayu, Jawa Barat dilansir ANTARA, Rabu, 6 Desember.

Adrian explained that there were two things that were submitted by the Panji Gumilang legal advisory team to the panel of judges at the Indramayu District Court, namely the suspension of detention and a request for permission to seek treatment.

Of the two proposals, he said, the panel of judges only granted the defendant for treatment and Panji Gumilang had implemented it.

He said the request was submitted by the defendant's legal advisor at the previous trial. "Then the panel of judges needed input and recommendations for attachment documents from the prison doctor and it was given. Then the defendant was allowed to seek treatment and had implemented it," he said.

Previously, Adrian explained that the defendant Panji Gumilang is now a prisoner of the Indramayu District Court and the detention process is still ongoing during the trial process.

"The detention authority is now in the panel of judges (PN Indramayu) and at that time the detention file was issued," he said.

The transfer of Panji Gumilang's detention status was in accordance with the procedure because when the case file against the defendant was transferred by the Prosecutor's Office to the Indramayu District Court, the status changed its authority.

Thus, he said, the detention status of Panji Gumilang at the Class IIB Indramayu Prison is currently under the authority of the panel of judges.

"The detention is in accordance with the law of the detention procedure, it means that when the file is transferred. When it is transferred to the court, the panel of judges will be appointed and the day of the trial at the same time switch the authority of detention," he said.
