Gibran's Insinuation, Anies: Folate Acid Is Obtained From Plants, Not Workshops

JAKARTA - Presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan, insinuated the candidate for vice president number 2, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who said that the need for pregnant women should be folic acid, not sulfuric acid.

Anies said this satire by explaining that stunting must have been handled since the baby was still in the womb of his mother.

Therefore, Anies views that the government needs to think about the nutritional content of pregnant women.

This was said by Anies in serving Anies' Desak event in Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan on the eighth day of the 2024 presidential election campaign period.

"The health of the prospective mother must be considered, and the prospective mother needs one is iron. Where did the iron come from? From meat, from food. Then the second is iodine. The third is folic acid. The folic acid is obtained from plants, not in workshops," said Anies, Tuesday, December 5.

Suddenly laughter was heard by the audience who heard Anies' statement at the event. Anies also continued his statement.

Anies reviewed that while serving as Governor of DKI Jakarta for the 2017-2022 period, Anies mobilized mothers of the family welfare empowerment team (PKK) to provide nutritional stimulation to pregnant women, infants, and early childhood.

"What is the front one? PKK. There is dasawisma. Dasawisma is a PKK cadre who one person handles 10 houses called dasawisma," said Anies.

"Then these 10 families are monitored and those who provide nutrition programs for pregnant women, nutrition for early childhood, and appropriate stimulation for early childhood," he added.

For information, Gibran talked about the problem of stunting when distributing free milk at the Asshiddiqiyah 2 Islamic Boarding School, Batu Ceper, Tangerang, Monday, December 4.

In fact, both are different substances. Folic acid is a synthetic form of vitamin B9. Meanwhile, sulfate acid is a chemical compound in the form of mineral acid which is usually used for processing mineral ore.

Then, Gibran realized that his tongue had been tucked away by his statement. The eldest son of President Jokowi apologized for misinvoking that sulfate acid is needed for pregnant women to prevent stunting.

"What did I mention yesterday? Okay, okay, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," said Gibran Rakabuming Raka to reporters at the Bung Karno Gelora (GBK) Arena Jakarta, Monday, December 4.

"(The truth is) folic acid. Sori, sori, sorry, please correct," continued Gibran.

The mayor of Solo did not care about the public's opinion of him because he mistakenly called folic acid a sulfate acid. Gibran invited the public to judge.

"Yes, please, let the residents judge it," said Gibran.
