3 Students In Mataram Arrested For Ordering Marijuana From France

The Mataram City Police, West Nusa Tenggara, handled the case of three students who were revealed to have ordered a package containing marijuana from France.

"We managed to uncover this case thanks to the cooperation support from Mataram Customs," said Mataram Police Chief Kombes Mustofa at a press conference reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 4.

The three students who were caught in this case had the initials RS (22), R (24), and A (24). They have the status of students who are studying at a university in Mataram City.

"The three of them are still students. We have secured evidence of 23.046 grams of marijuana, cellphones and some cash," he said.

The arrests of the three, explained Mustofa, took place from three different locations. The whereabouts of the perpetrators were revealed based on the results of information development from Customs and Excise.

"Therefore, we appreciate the information submitted by Customs and Excise on the alleged crime of narcotics trafficking that occurred in Mataram City," he said.

Following up on the arrests of the three perpetrators at the end of last week, now investigators from the drug investigation unit have named them suspects.

From the results of the investigation, investigators applied the allegations of Article 111 paragraph (2) and/or Article 114 paragraph (2), and/or Article 127 paragraph (1) letter a of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"According to the article we apply, the punishment starts from rehabilitation to a maximum of seven years in prison," he said.

The application of the criminal allegation refers to the role of each suspect. Some act as ordering, controlling, and users.

Meanwhile, Head of the Mataram Customs Enforcement and Investigation Section, Obernard, who was also present at the press conference, explained that his party initially received information that the goods had entered the city of Mataram from the Bali Customs and Excise.

"The information received was that there was a package of narcotics from France to Mataram," said Obernard.

From the results of the search for information, it was revealed the identity of the customer and recipient of goods in Mataram City.

"We then coordinated the search results with the Mataram Police to make a disclosure," he said.

The evidence that was secured was indeed relatively small. However, Obernard assessed that the ease of obtaining narcotics through orders in this network should be of mutual attention.

"In fact, these goods are ordered from abroad, so this case should be used as material for mutual attention," he said.
