Wonosobo Regency Government Socializes Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Law For The Establishment Of Perdes TKI

JAKARTA - The Wonosobo Regency Government (Pemkab) has passed the inclusion program socializing Law (UU) Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).

The socialization and harmonization of this new law involves the Surakarta Social Analysis and Research Institute (SARI) and Migrant Care.

Chairman of the Surakarta SARI Foundation Tri Hananto said the importance of socialization is still being used by Law Number 39 of 2004 concerning Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers (TKI) Abroad as a guide for Village Regulations (Perdes) of Indonesian Migrant Workers.

"We hope that through the Perdes TKI review, it will be an important step for the revision of the Perdes in accordance with the new law. Furthermore, the results of the Perdes review will provide an overview based on the new law to be adjusted or add additions," Tri said at a socialization event in Wonosobo, Thursday, November 30, which was confiscated by Antara.

Tri continued, it is time for Perdes TKI to adjust to Law No. 18/2017. Likewise, the formation of the Perdes must be in line with the new law.

In this socialization, the Wonosobo Regency Government invited seven villages attended by village heads, village officials, community leaders, and representatives of the PMI community in each village.

A total of seven villages, namely Mergosari and Rogojati Villages (Sukoharjo District), Lipursari Village (Leksono District), Gondang and Kuripan Villages (Watumalang District), Ngadikusuma Village and Sindupaten (Kertek District).

The Legal Section of the Regional Secretariat for Wonosobo, Gilang Wahyu Nugroho, added the importance of Perdes TKI. This is because the beginning of the protection of prospective migrant workers is in residential areas or their domicile, namely villages/kelurahan.

Gilang revealed that the preparation of legal products in the village has several legal grounds. There are two legal products in the village, namely regulation and determination.

"Through the Reviu Perdes TKI workshop, as a first step was taken as an effort to ensure better protection for migrant workers at the village level," he said.

As for Perdes TKI, it aims to avoid irresponsible brokers and sponsors, especially illegally sending migrant workers and the practice of trafficking in persons (TPPO) with the mode of sending workers abroad.
