Regent Rudy Gunawan: Ideally UMK 2024 In Garut IDR 2.7 Million

Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan stated that ideally the Garut Regency Minimum Wage (UMK) in 2024 would be IDR 2.6 million or IDR 2.7 million per month. This amount is considered according to the conditions of the community's needs in Garut Regency, West Java. "For me ideally, yes, ideally yes, around Rp. 2.6-2.7 (million)," said Rudy Gunawan when asked by reporters regarding the proposed increase in the 2024 UMK in Garut, Antara, Monday, November 27. He said the ideal UMK view in Garut took into account based on conditions in the field, which currently include housing needs, or rented houses for industrial workers of around Rp600 thousand to Rp700 thousand per month. "Because the boarding house itself is Rp600 thousand per month. The boarding houses in Leles and in Limbangan (industrial area) are Rp600 thousand to Rp700 thousand," he said. He said Garut's UMK in 2023 was set at IDR 2,117,318.31, then workers applied for an increase in the UMK in 2024 by 16 percent. The demands of the workers by the Regent have been recommended to the West Java Provincial Government based on a study of the conditions of livingworthiness in Garut Regency. "What we convey is, based on the feasibility of living in Garut Regency, which has different perceptions with BPS," he said. He conveyed that the Garut Regency Government also recommended that the increase in the UMK refer to Government Regulation (PP) Number 51 of 2023 concerning amendments to Government Regulation Number 36 of 2021 concerning wages. "We propose that there are two that are being submitted, it's up to the governor, one for the proposal from the workers is approximately 16 percent, and PP 51 is 5 percent," he said. He said the UMK was in accordance with the rules applied to large industries, if the company did not provide wages in accordance with the UMK, it would be sanctioned by the government. However, for companies that cannot afford it based on the UMK, said the Regent, they must first notify the government regarding the company's capabilities and make agreements with workers.

"If you don't carry out it in the field, there will be sanctions, except for those (companies) who report first, right," he said.
