The Suspect Of Extortion, The KPK Has Not Determined Legal Aid For Firli

JAKARTA - Acting (Plt) Chairman of the KPK Nawawi Pomolango said the Corruption Eradication Commission had not yet determined any legal assistance after the stipulation of Firli Bahuri as a suspect in the Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) extortion case.

Met after the inauguration as the interim KPK Chair at the State Palace, Monday, November 27, Nawawi said that as soon as possible he and other leaders would discuss several things and one of them was legal assistance for Firli.

"This includes material that will be discussed with other leaders. Whether it needs to be accompanied, it needs to be given legal assistance, or enough until the presidential decree is issued," said Nawawi.

Monday morning, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appointed Nawawi as the acting chairman of the KPK replacing Firli Bahuri who stumbled upon the alleged extortion case against the former Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo alias SYL. Firli was temporarily dismissed after becoming a suspect in the case.

Nawawi said that the work of the KPK leadership was collegial collective. For this reason, every step or policy that the KPK wants to implement must be discussed together.

"To discuss priority-scale work related to the current situation faced by the institution," said Nawawi.

Previously, Jokowi officially dismissed Firli Bahuri from the position of chairman of the KPK. At the same time, Jokowi appointed KPK deputy chairman Nawawi Pomolango to be the interim chairman of the KPK.

"President Joko Widodo has signed the Presidential Decree on the Temporary Dismissal of KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri, as well as appointed Nawawi Pomolango as the Temporary Chair of the KPK," said the Presidential Special Staff Coordinator, Ari Dwipayana last Friday.

Ari said President Jokowi immediately signed Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 116 dated November 24, 2023 regarding the dismissal of Firli Bahuri as well as the appointment of Nawawi Pomolango as chairman of the KPK temporarily upon arrival in Jakarta after a working visit from West Kalimantan.
