Meeting The Attorney General, Azwar Anas Bahas Formation Of The Asset Recovery Agency

JAKARTA - Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Abdullah Azwar Anas met Attorney General ST Burhanuddin to discuss the establishment of the Asset Recovery Agency to the Center for Judicial Health Implementation at the Prosecutor's Office.

Anas said the urgency of establishing an asset recovery agency was related to the large amount of evidence from the proceeds of the crime handled by the Adhyaksa Corps.

"Because a lot of assets have become evidence that is difficult to handle. Because there are so many, and are in many places, with this it will certainly save as evidence of assets that have been confiscated by the Prosecutor's Office," Anas said in his statement quoted by ANTARA, Friday, November 24.

According to him, this visit is a form of support from the Ministry of PANRB in strengthening institutions and developing the Attorney General's organization. Previously, some time ago the Attorney General had also visited the Ministry of PANRB.

Anas is optimistic that if later this agency is strengthened, the Prosecutor's Office will be more optimal in the law enforcement process, especially those related to saving state assets.

By 2022, the Prosecutor's Asset Recovery Center will have returned state losses of up to IDR 2.04 trillion.

The increase in the status of the Asset Recovery Agency from the previous Asset Recovery Center, based on the Attorney General's statement, is also expected to overcome long bureaucratic problems. Thus, data and information and communication exchange becomes more effective, even at the international level.

The prosecutor's office has been attached to the main tasks, functions, and authorities in the law enforcement function. Starting from the investigation to the execution process, namely carrying out asset tracing, asset recovery, so that the confiscated assets can be more useful and increase Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP).

The Attorney General hopes that later the Prosecutor's Office can manage the assets that have been confiscated by involving related institutions in the law enforcement process. The goal is to save and recover state assets.

ST Burhanuddin explained that this agency is different from the Asset Confiscation Bill. This agency was specially established at the Prosecutor's Office for the duties and activities of the Prosecutor's Office, especially in execution.

Through the establishment of the Asset Recovery Agency, it can later be more adaptive and coordinated regarding assets that already have permanent legal force (Inkracht). Thus, these assets can be immediately auctioned or utilized by the state, including strengthening the collaboration of government agencies and BUMN/BUMD to save state assets, "concluded ST Burhanuddin.
