JAKARTA - The DPR has hosted the 9th Mikta Speakers' Consultation. In addition to leading the running of the parliamentary consulting forum for the 5 middle power countries, the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, will invite 4 other MPs to meet with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Before opening the 9th Mikta Speakers' Consultation, Puan together with the leaders of the Mexican, South Korean, Turkish and Australian parliaments will meet with President Jokowi at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta. "Today's consulting forum will formulate how the MIKTA state parliament can strengthen cooperation in facing world challenges," explained Puan.

President Jokowi even chaired the MiKTA Leaders 'Gathering meeting which was held for the first time since MIKTA was established, on September 9.

As the host, the Indonesian House of Representatives carries the theme Strengthening Multilateralism, Intergenerational Challenges' at this year's MiKTA Speakers' Consultation. According to the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, the MiKTA consulting forum will formulate how the MIKTA state parliament can strengthen its cooperation. This collaboration, said Puan, also includes the parliament and the governments of each MIKTA country.

Puan said that the 9th Mikta Speakers' Consultation would also discuss how changes in international relations, regional tensions, and the evolution of international norms could affect global geopolitical dynamics.

The Indonesian-led MIKTA parliamentary forum will also discuss how the world can accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target or Sustainable Development Goals.
