YOGYAKARTA - The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polhukam) team has begun to identify incidents of past gross human rights violations in the Special Region of Yogyakarta to be resolved through non-judicial channels.
"After identification, of course we will do what we can, but what form can we not convey at this time," said Deputy for Legal Coordination and Human Rights at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Sugeng Purnomo, quoted by Antara from the official website of the Provincial Government, Saturday, November 18.
Sugeng and his team were given the mandate to restore victims of gross human rights violations in 12 past events in Indonesia based on Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 4 of 2023 concerning the Monitoring Team for the Implementation of Non-judicial Settlement Recommendations for Human Rights Violations.
The 12 incidents were 1965-1966 Incident, 1982's Mysterious Shooting Incident (1985, Talangsari Incident in Lampung 1989, Rumoh Geudong Incident and Sattis Post in Aceh 1989, 1997 '1998 Forced Disappearance Incident, and May 1998 Riot Incident.

As a first step, the team from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs had an audience with the Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X at the Kepatihan Office, Yogyakarta on Friday (17/11) to ask for the blessing and direction of efforts to resolve past gross human rights violations that occurred in the DIY area.
