Prabowo Leads The Meeting Of The Minister Of Defense Of The 17th ASEAN Member State

JAKARTA - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto opened and chaired the meeting of the 17th ASEAN Member State Defense Minister (The 17th ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting / The 17th ADMM) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).

Prabowo automatically received the Chairship relay of The 17th ADMM and The 10th ADMM-Plus.

Referring to the theme of the Chairship of Indonesia ASEAN 2023: "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth", the Ministry of Defense has set the theme "Indonesian Chairship in ADMM 2023 is "peace, Prosperity, and Security." Peace, prosperity, and security are closely related and are a strong foundation for regional stability.

Therefore, through cooperation in ADMM, Indonesia is committed to promoting dialogue and cooperation in defense and security in order to achieve common goals.

At the beginning of his remarks, Prabowo as the 17th Chairman of ADMM expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Minister of Defense of ASEAN Countries and Secretary General of ASEAN at the 17th ADMM event. Timor Leste was also present at this meeting as an observer (observer), represented by the Minister of Defense Prof. Donaciano Do Costa Gomes.

"ADMM plays a very important role in overcoming security challenges, through meaningful dialogue, exchanging ideas, and establishing partnerships with the principles of mutual trust, transparency, and collaboration. This meeting can also be a catalyst to achieve results that can be implemented," said the Minister of Defense, quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, November 15.

Defense Minister Prabowo hopes that all delegates will engage in constructive discussions, find innovative solutions, and identify concrete steps to address security challenges in the region.

"I believe that our collective understanding and commitment will pave the way for a safer, prosperous and resilient ASEAN community," said Defense Minister Prabowo.

Prabowo also expressed his concern over the conflict in Myanmar and the situation in Gaza. The Indonesian government will do its best to continue humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people and a peaceful solution to Myanmar.

In the 17th ADMM, a number of prominent defense and security issues were discussed such as geopolitical and geostrategy dynamics in the regional and global context, defense cooperation within the framework of ASEAN, as well as cooperation between ASEAN and Plus Country.
