LEBAK - Kampung Sinday and Pasir Eurih Pajagan Village, Sajira District, Lebak Regency, Banten, sank in the Karian Reservoir which is planned to be inaugurated by the end of 2023.

"In the past, Kampung Sinday had quite a lot of inhabitants, up to 250 families. Even Anies Baswedan had also been here while reviewing elementary school students falling on the suspension bridge," said Ojod (45), a resident of Pajangan, Lebak Regency, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, November 10.

The Sinday Village, which was originally crowded, has now sunk to become the third largest reservoir in Indonesia. Currently, the people of Sinday live not far from the reservoir location by buying land and building new housing.

"We can rebuild houses in other locations from the proceeds of land compensation affected by the reservoir," he explained.

Apart from Ojod, the people who had to leave their hometowns were Nasir. The 55-year-old man is a resident of Pasir Eurih Village, Tambak Village, Cimarga District, Lebak Regency.

"We are quite heavy to leave Pasir Eurih Village because of the birth of our ancestors. But we are willing and sincere for the progress of the nation," he said.

The Karianbaru Reservoir was flooded with water and this condition received a lot of attention, including the surrounding community who wanted to directly see the reservoir filling process.

This condition was used by a number of residents to earn fortune by selling. As did Ela, who is a resident of Pajagan Village, Lebak Regency.

"We sell various foods and drinks almost every day. Everything is always gone," he said.

The Karian Reservoir is planned to be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in December 2023.

The construction of the Karian Reservoir that sank 12 villages in Sajira, Maja, Rangkasbitung and Cimarga sub-districts has been carried out since 2015 with a dam capacity of 314.7 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 1,740 hectares.

The Karian Reservoir has the main function of supplying raw water for household needs for 5 million residents and industries in 9 cities/districts in Jakarta and Banten.
