JAKARTA - Hundreds of residents of scavenger villages along the Ciliwung Gedong river, RT 10/01, Gedong Village, Pasar Rebo District, East Jakarta are still having trouble getting clean water. Even though they live on riverbanks, groundwater that comes out of public toilets is cloudy.

"The water is not good here. During the dry season, the water here cannot be drunk," said Sri Wahyuni, a local resident to VOI, Friday, November 3.

They are willing to queue because the groundwater conditions in their area are very cloudy and cannot be consumed.

"I used to buy 2 gallons of drinking water to refill IDR 12 thousand. Buy drinking water every three days," he said.

Hamdani also complained about the same thing. The man who lives on the banks of the Gedong river, Pasar Rebo also has difficulty getting access to clean water.

"If the water condition is yellow for a long time, it's about 1 year after it's dry," he said. Hamdani said, before the dry season, the water condition was still quite clean.

"When the water is dry, the water smells a little bit, the water is yellow and it comes out small. If we drink, we buy another gallon of water, it's itchy for the bath," he added.

He hopes to get assistance in the supply of clean water from the government regularly. So that people can save money not to buy clean water for their daily food and drink needs.
