Dubai Starts Using AI To Monitor Taxis, Buses And Goods Delivery

JAKARTA - Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) is starting to use artificial intelligence (AI) to track the performance of the 14,500 drivers and the 7,200 vehicles it operates.

The DTC said it would use technology at its control center to monitor taxis, limousines, school buses, public buses and motorcycles.

The control center helps DTC, a subsidiary of Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), to provide taxi and public transport services in areas that need them most.

"This center helps senior officials in making decisions quickly and efficiently, in addition to providing an important schedule for events hosted in Dubai, to distribute taxi fleets on demand and direct empty vehicles to high demand areas," said Ammar Al Braiki DTC fleet operations director. Artificial intelligence technology also monitors driver behavior and tracks vehicle routes that include 1,000 school buses, 600 delivery motorcycles, and 400 limousines.

The DTC said it had made a significant emphasis on monitoring school bus trips, to ensure students' safety and timely arrivals at schools and homes.

In addition to monitoring the operation of 5,200 taxis, this center also provides support to drivers, responding to their needs to measuring the efficiency of daily vehicle movement.

In August, Dubai, the United Arab Emirates introduced a new high-tech bus that has a series of smart features, including cameras and surveillance systems to ensure no children were left on the bus at the end of the trip and to monitor student movements during transit.
