Gibran Becomes Prabowo's Vice Presidential Candidate, PDIP Chairman Basarah Talks About Political Ethics: Should Resign

JAKARTA - Chairman of the PDI-P DPP (PDIP) Ahmad Basarah touched on the political ethics of Gibran Rakabuming Raka after becoming a candidate for vice president (cawapres) Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 presidential election. The mayor of Solo should immediately resign as a cadre.

"He should resign officially when he makes a political decision out of the PDI-P's decision through the prerogative of the PDI-P General Chair, Megawati Soekarnoputri," Basarah told reporters in Jakarta, Thursday, October 26.

Basarah assessed that every organization must have rules of the game. So, Gibran must follow what the party decides.

Moreover, he has been assigned as a regional head. He should have known exactly the rules of the game within his party organization PDI Perjuangan starting from AD/ART or other rules," he said.

"In the context of the presidential election, the PDI-P has decided on its presidential and vice-presidential candidates in accordance with the applicable rules in our party rules, namely establishing Mas Ganjar and Prof Mahfud as presidential and vice-presidential candidates," he continued.

This is what makes PDIP wait for Gibran's attitude. However, because he has registered as a vice presidential candidate for Prabowo, President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) son is no longer a cadre.

"We can see from the public's response regarding this matter. So without having to be officially dismissed, the people actually think that Mas Gibran has left the PDI-P because he has taken the decision to leave the official party's political line," he explained.

"We will see how Mas Gibran's political ethics is to show his good faith when he officially makes different decisions from the party's official political line, namely carrying Mas Ganjar and professor Mahfud MD," added the member of the DPR.

As previously reported, Gibran officially registered with Prabowo to the KPU on Wednesday, October 25. He advanced with the support of the Advanced Indonesia Coalition, which consisted of nine parties including the Gerindra Party, the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), and a number of other parties including the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).

The couple has submitted the completeness of the files to the KPU. The day after, they have also carried out health checks at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, Jakarta.
