JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo instructed the Army Chief of Staff (Kasad) General TNI Agus Subiyanto to maintain a conducive situation during the 2024 General Election.

"We see that there are 802,000 polling stations (TPS), later I and the National Police and all elements of society will secure all polling stations so that during the voting we do not work alone, but work together to create a conducive situation in the territory of Indonesia," Agus said after his inauguration ceremony as Kasad TNI at the State Palace, Jakarta, quoted by ANTARA Wednesday, October 25.

Furthermore, he explained that every Military Regional Command (Kodam) has a contingency plan, including to be aware of potential election vulnerabilities.

"The Pangdam will later explain to me about the contingency plan, as well as for the vulnerabilities of this election," he said.

Agus also ensured that the TNI would maintain neutrality during the 2024 General Election.

"We will be neutral," he said, asserting.

General Agus Subiyanto was inaugurated as Kasad to replace TNI General Dudung Abdurachman who will retire on November 19, 2023.

The graduate of the 1991 Military Academy (Akmil) who pursued his career as the first officer in the Red Beret Corps (Kopassus) previously accompanied General Dudung as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army from 2022 to October 25, 2023.

Having served as Commander of the Kodim (Dandim) 0735/Surakarta (2009"2011) and became Commander of the Presidential Security Forces (Danpaspampres) in 2020-2021, Agus is one of the TNI officers who has been in a circle near Jokowi since he was still Mayor of Surakarta until finally the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
