Heru Budi Hands Off About Formula E 2024 In Jakarta Which Is Threatened To Cancel Held

JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono admitted that he did not want to take care of the fate of the continuation of the Formula E event in Jakarta in 2024 which was threatened with being canceled.

This is in response to the decision of the international automotive federation, the FIA Formula E, which crossed out Jakarta as the organizer in the Formula E calendar for next year's race series due to the coincidence of the 2024 election stages.

"I don't (take care of the continuation of Formula E). I ask Jakpro to comment on this," Heru said when met at the DKI Jakarta DPRD building, Monday, October 23.

Heru emphasized that since 2023 or the second year of implementation in Jakarta, Formula E has become a business to business (B2B) activity between BUMD PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) and the license holder of Formula E.

Thus, Heru feels that only Jakprolah can decide or try whether the electric car racing event next year can still be held or not.

"Just Jakpro, please B2B. Whether it's profitable to go back, or looking for the right date, I'll leave it to Jakpro," said Heru.

Meanwhile, DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary Joko Agus Setyono admitted that he would review the continuation of the fate of Formula E in 2024 with Jakpro.

Joko has a consideration, if Formula E continues to be held next year, it will collide with the election agenda. Meanwhile, if it is canceled, the DKI Provincial Government has paid a commitment fee with a contract for the implementation of 2022 to 2024.

"In response, I will review it first. Because if it is canceled there means we cannot hold it. Meanwhile, we have paid," he explained.

Jakarta is actually scheduled to hold a Formula E race at the Ancol E-Prix International Circuit on June 8, 2024. However, the schedule collided with the general election agenda (election).

As a result of the 2024 General Election, the International Automotive Federation (FIA) recently issued Jakarta in the tenth season racing calendar of the Formula E world championship ABB FIA.

"The event planned for Jakarta on Saturday, June 8 will not be continued after the announcement of the campaign period in the Indonesian presidential election for most of June," said an official statement from Formula E.

"This will have an impact on logistics on race delivery on the streets of the capital at the same time. Formula E and authorities in Jakarta are exploring the feasibility of racing in the city on an alternative date," the statement continued.

Before undergoing the 2024 championship season, the riders will conduct trials at the Valencia, Spain circuit on 23-27 October.

Formula E this season will be held at the Shanghai International Circuit, Shanghai, China for the first time by holding two series of races which will take place on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, 2024.
