NasDem: Mahfud MD Becomes A Vice Presidential Candidate Gives Many People's Choices

Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of the NasDem Party Ahmad Ali assessed that the appointment of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD as a candidate for vice president to accompany Ganjar Pranowo gave the people many choices of good people who contested the 2024 presidential election.

"This means that with more and more good people running in the presidential election, there will be more choices of the people and the choice of the community to vote," said Ahmad Ali as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 18.

According to him, with the number of good contestants who color the 2024 presidential election, it will also provide good hopes for the Indonesian people.

He himself considered Mahfud MD as a religious and nationalist figure who has a good track record as a leader.

"If a person like Pak Mahfud becomes one of the contestants, I think whoever the elected president will give hope to the community because Mr. Mahfud's figure is religious, nationalist, and has a good track record," he said.

However, Ahmad Ali emphasized that his party remains optimistic that the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair from the Coalition for Change Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (Amin) will win in the 2024 presidential election.

"But (not that) we admit to other people then we weaken ourselves, right or not," he said.

Previously, the General Chairperson of the PDI-P DPP Megawati Soekarnoputri announced Mahfud MD as a candidate for vice president (cawapres) who accompanied Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) contestation.

"Today, Wednesday, October 18, 2023, I firmly take all decisions, I aim at the interests of the people, nation and state with the words bismillahirrahmanirrahim the PDIP-elected vice presidential candidate who will accompany Ganjar Pranowo is Prof. Dr. Mahfud MD," said Megawati.
