MPR Chair Asks Ministry Of Foreign Affairs To Prepare An Evaluation Plan For Indonesian Citizens

JAKARTA - MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo asked the government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) to continue to monitor the development of the conflict between Palestine and Israel which is heating up. Bamsoet asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to seek protection and prepare an evacuation plan for Indonesian citizens living in Palestine.

"Based on the latest data, there are 45 Indonesian citizens in Palestine, with the distribution of 10 people in Gaza and 35 others in the West Bank," said Bamsoet in his statement, Tuesday, October 10.

According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must hold talks with ASEAN countries to seek peace support in Palestine.

"The Indonesian government also needs to urge the United Nations to actively cooperate with international stakeholders to immediately resolve the root of the escalation conflict in accordance with the UN convention that has been agreed upon," he said.

The former chairman of the House of Representatives said, as a member of the OIC, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia must be able to appeal to Islamic countries to seek to stop the Palestinian and Israeli conflicts to the United Nations. This is a form of the responsibility of the Indonesian government as recognized by international legitimacy in ensuring protection for the Palestinian people.

"Because war has had a bad impact not only on civil society from both parties who are in conflict but also has an impact on the world community in general. Because war has created multicrisis, ranging from humanity to finance," said Bamsoet.

In addition, continued Bamsoet, the Indonesian government must also give an appeal to big countries to refrain from responding to the conflict so as not to cloud the atmosphere that could escalate the war.

"As well as asking the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to also urge Indonesian citizens in Palestine and Israel to increase vigilance and continue to communicate with local representatives," he appealed.

"And ask Indonesian citizens who have a planned visit to the area to postpone and cancel their journey until further notice from the government," said Bamsoet.
