ACEH - A total of 14 gampongs or villages spread across two sub-districts of Simeulue Regency, Aceh Province, were flooded with a height of up to one meter.
"The latest condition is that until now the water is still inundated in residential areas,” said BPBA Chief Executive Ilyas in Banda Aceh, as reported by Antara, Monday, October 2.
He explained that floods and landslides in Simeulue began on Monday at around 05.00 WIB. This incident was triggered by high-intensity rainfall that flushed the archipelago.
The areas affected by the flood are in East Simeulue District covering Gampong Suka Karya, Cold Water, Kuala Makmur, Sefoyan, Linggi, Suka Jaya, Air Pinang, Gawang, Suka Damai, Suak Buluh, Sinabang, Amaiteng Mulia, Suka Maju, and one gampong in Teluk Dalam District, namely Luan Balu Village.
"“(Flood) due to the high intensity of rainfall causes the water to overflow to the shoulder of the road with a water level of 30-100 centimeters," he said.
In addition to submerging residential areas, a resident's house was hit by a fallen tree in Gampong Sefoyan, then a fallen tree in Gampong Linggi, and a landslide in Gampong Sefoyan.
“ Affected victims and refugees are still being collected. There were no casualties in the incident, he said.
Ilyas added that the Simeulue BPBD continues to monitor several floods and landslides, as well as handling fallen trees that hit residents' houses.
" “ Simeulue BPBD officers also collect data on victims and provide panic logistics," he said.
Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to people in the Aceh Province to be aware of the potential for floods and landslides triggered by high rainfall.
"The “Musim transitions from the peak of the dry season to the rainy season which is predicted until early October," said BMKG Class I forecaster Sultan Iskandar Muda Aceh Besar Faqih Musyaffa.
BMKG predicts the transition season will end in early October 2023, then Aceh will start entering the rainy season.
"So we need to be aware of potential hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, landslides, strong winds and others due to heavy rains," he said.
