DKI DPRD Supports Transjakarta Fare Increase from IDR 3,500 to IDR 5,000

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta Regional Representative Council (DPRD), Taufik Azhar, said that his party supports the DKI Provincial Government increasing Transjakarta fares. This is because the price of a Transjakarta ticket has not changed since dozens of years ago, at IDR 3,500.

Taufik said that this matter would be discussed at the DKI DPRD Commission B working meeting together with the DKI Transportation Service and PT Transjakarta after the changes to the 2023 Regional Budget (APBD) were ratified.

"Perhaps it will be evaluated as long as from 2005 until now, Transjakarta large buses are still subsidized by IDR 3,500. So if that calculation is very far away, the fare increase will be considered," said Taufik to journalists, Wednesday, September 27.

Taufik explained that so far the DKI Provincial Government has disbursed quite a large budget for transportation subsidies or public service obligations (PSO) on Transjakarta fares.

So far, Transjakarta tickets have been subsidized from the APBD for around IDR 13 thousand per trip because the economic value of the Transjakarta fare is IDR 15 thousand per ticket.

By increasing bus fares, Taufik views that Transjakarta can help ease the burden on ABPD because the subsidy value is reduced. Remember, the 2023 APBD also experiences a budget deficit.

"When we talk about PSO, there is discussion that we shouldn't just rely on PSO. This means that Transjakarta must also improve its economy from other aspects," explained Taufik.

Previously, Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service, Syafrin Liputo, explained that the discourse on increasing Transjakarta fares began with a proposal from the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ) which looked at the rates for transportation modes managed by the DKI Provincial Government.

DTKJ, continued Syafrin, proposed an increase because Transjakarta fares had not increased since dozens of years ago. Meanwhile, other modes of transportation such as the KRL Commuter Line are planned to increase by IDR 2,000 from IDR 5,000.

"The reason is seeing that the existing Transjakarta tariff of IDR 3,500 since 2007 has not increased temporarily, on the other hand, tariffs for transportation modes such as KRL will increase. Of course we have to check and recheck regarding that and of course there will be an internal survey," explained Syafrin.
