JAKARTA - The New Indonesia Research & Consulting survey institute assessed that the issue of the sustainability of President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) program remains the main stream in the 2024 election based on a survey of public satisfaction with the performance of the Jokowi government which reached 81.7 percent.

Of the 81.7 percent of respondents who were satisfied, 9.6 percent said they were very satisfied and 72.1 percent said they were satisfied. Only 16.1 percent said they were dissatisfied, and 0.9 percent of them were dissatisfied at all, and those who said they did not know / did not answer were 2.2 percent.

"Public satisfaction which reaches 81.7 percent indicates the sustainability of Jokowi's program as the main stream in the upcoming elections," said Executive Director of New Indonesia Research & Consulting Andreas Nuryono as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 26.

Andreas said the dominant mainstream continuity was shown by the high electability of two presidential candidates from the largest parties who incidentally supported the government's strong support.

Prabowo Subianto, promoted by Gerindra, is the second largest party to become the main axis of the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM). Its members include parties in Senayan, namely Golkar and PAN, including Democrats who are on the opposition side.

In addition, Prabowo collects support from many new and non-parliamentary parties, namely the United Nations, Gelora, and Garuda. The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) is also often present in the agendas of the Prabowo coalition, although it has not yet been formally decided.

Meanwhile, Ganjar Pranowo was promoted by PDIP, which is the winning party for the election twice in a row. The coalition carrying Ganjar also involved PPP and two non-Senayan parties, namely Perindo and Hanura.

In the Coalition of Change, Anies Baswedan, who was originally supported by two opposition parties, namely Democrats and PKS, recently underwent a change of formation. Democrats decided to leave the Change Coalition and switch to support Prabowo after Muhaimin Iskandar (PKB) was chosen as Anies vice president.

PKS then finally accepted the Anies-Cak Imin pair and remained in the Change Coalition. Two government parties now dominate the coalition that carries Anies, namely NasDem and PKB.

The changing Coalition camp sees a political situation dominated by a narrative of sustainability that does not benefit its position.

"Pelan but surely, the Change Coalition adjusts and wants to help taste the electoral cake from Jokowi's unbeaten factor," said Andreas.

Andreas also revealed that based on the 2020 trend, the level of satisfaction tends to move up. Although it had fallen sharply when the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-2021, public satisfaction rose again to penetrate the psychological limit above 80 percent.

Economic recovery and the end of the pandemic status provide high expectations for the performance of the government. Economic growth is gradually recovering and is now surviving above 5 percent, a fairly high number compared to several other countries.

Likewise, inflationary turmoil triggered by disruption of food and energy commodity supply chains, as well as geopolitical factors, especially war in Ukraine, has been overcome. Threats still arise from the impact of El Nino and the ban on food exports by a number of countries.

The high level of satisfaction in the second half of Jokowi's administration, plus the exposure of the pandemic and war, provides optimism for the public for the direction of development that feels right towards Indonesia's target to become a developed country by 2045.

The limitation of the term of office stipulated in the constitution made Jokowi unable to compete in the 2024 General Election. As a result, the public has high hopes for the next national leadership that can bring the sustainability of Jokowi's post-election programs.

Sustainability is practically the discourse of mainstream in the upcoming presidential election. Calls for changes echoed by opposition political forces are now likely to fade, even having to compromise with the large current sustainability.

The New Indonesia Research & Consulting survey was conducted on September 11-17, 2023, on 1,200 people representing all provinces. The survey method is multistage random sampling, with a margin of error of 2.89 percent and at a 95 percent confidence level.
