The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra received an additional Rp672 million to optimize the handling of forest and land fires (karhutla) in the area.

The addition was made after a discussion was held at the OKU DPRD plenary session which discussed the report of Commission I with related regional apparatus organizations (OPD), in Baturaja, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, Tuesday, September 26.

Deputy Chairman of the OKU DPRD Yoni Risdianto in his report said that in the midst of the condition of the large number of agricultural land in the area that caught fire due to the impact of the dry season, there was a change in budget adjustments at the OKU BPBD.

BPBD as a partner of Commission I of the OKU DPRD received an additional Rp672,640,000 from the budget ceiling in the 2023 main budget of Rp4,935,776,447 or Rp5,608,416,447 in this year's Revised APBD.

According to him, the increase in the OKU BPBD is considered in accordance with the workload carried out, especially in the handling of forest and land fires which has occurred in the last few months.

"Moreover, the OKU BPBD is one of the spearheads for handling forest and land fires," he said.

He hopes that with the increase in the budget at BPBD OKU, it can maximize the handling of forest and land fires so that it can prevent smog disaster in the area.
