Jokowi To Muhammadiyah Family: I Ask For Support To Keep The 2024 Election Peaceful

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked Muhammadiyah's extended family to participate in maintaining the sustainability of national development so that it becomes the idealized Indonesia. "I also ask for the support of Muhammadiyah's extended family to maintain a peaceful election," said the president at the 2023 Muhammadiyah Youth Grand Apple at the Solo Manahan Stadium, Central Java, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, September 20. Jokowi appreciates that so far Muhammadiyah has actively contributed and cared about helping the community. "This is what I think makes Muhammadiyah more loved by the people, because culture helps each other, caring for each other is a noble value, the gift of Allah SWT," he said. According to him, these efforts made Indonesia able to face various challenges and be able to resolve these challenges well. "Alhamdulillah, Indonesia is one of the few countries that is able to survive its economy and even grow amidst the challenges facing the world," he said. This good momentum must be maintained together. Moreover, he said, Indonesia will face a big agenda, namely the simultaneous elections in 2024. "Based on our experience in holding direct elections, five elections, I believe our nation has matured in democracy," he added. However, he said, it is undeniable that the potential risk will remain so that it must be watched out for together.

"The potential tension will also remain and this is where the role and contribution of volunteer organizations, youth organizations such as KOKAM Muhammadiyah is needed," he said. Meanwhile, as many as 25,000 members of the KOKAM troops participated in the grand rally. Apart from President Jokowi, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, were also present at the event.
