The Volcano Observation Post (PGA) invites residents to comply with the hazard radius of Mount Karangetang, North Sulawesi, although lava avalanches from the crater peak have decreased relatively.
"You must remain alert to the potential threat of hot clouds of avalanches or floods of volcanic material from rivers or rivers that originate at the top of the crater," said Head of PGA Karangetang Post, Yudia P Tatipang in Manado, Thursday, September 14, as reported by Antara.
When compared to previous times, earthquake avalanches recorded reached dozens of times in the observation period every six hours, in contrast to the previous week, the avalanche earthquake was relatively far down.
During the observation period at 00.00 - 06.00 WITA, PGA Karangetang Post recorded one 15-millimeter amplitude earthquake for 74 seconds, one hybrid / multi-phase earthquake with an amplitude of 20 millimeters, S-P: 0 seconds duration of 10 seconds, and one distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of eight millimeters, S-P: 19 seconds for 53 seconds.
Next, during the observation period at 06.00 - 12.00 WITA, one 10 millimeter amplitude harmonic tremor earthquake was recorded for 52 seconds, two hybrid earthquakes/phase many amplitudes: 20 millimeters, S-P: 0 seconds for 11 seconds and one distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 15 millimeters, S-P: 28 seconds for 73 seconds.
"The status of Mount Karangetang is still at level three on standby," said Yudia.
He hopes that residents comply with the recommendations issued by PVMBG, visitors or tourists are asked not to approach, not to climb and not to do activities within the hazard forecast zone, namely a radius of 2.5 km from the crater peak of two (northern areas) and the main crater (south), as well as a sectoral expansion area to the southwest, south, southeast as far as 3.5 kilometers.
Beware of lava avalanches and hot clouds avalanches that can occur at any time from the previous buildup of lava material because its condition is unstable and easily collapsed, especially to the south, southeast, west and southwest sectors.
Yudia also hopes that people living around the riverbanks that originate from the peak of Mount Karangetang will increase their preparedness from the potential threat of rain lava and flash floods that can flow to the beach.
