22-year-old Man Trapped In Gorontalo Gold Mining Hole Found Dead

The joint SAR team found the body of a miner who was previously reportedly trapped in a gold mine pit in Tulabolo Village, East Suwawa District, Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province.

"The victim is a miner named Upik Bobihu (22). The initial information conveyed by the police is that the victim has been trapped in a gold mine since Sunday, September 3, 2023," said Head of the Gorontalo Basarnas Heriyanto in Gorontalo, Tuesday, September 5, quoted by Antara.

He continued that the victim was a resident of Deme Village, East Sumalata District, North Gorontalo Regency.

When reportedly trapped in a gold mine, the joint SAR team headed to the location assisted by TNI and Polri personnel and the community, immediately excavated to find the position where the victim was.

"When found, the victim was already dead," he said.

After being found and evacuated from inside the mine pit, the victim was then taken to a residential area close to the road access.

"After being lifted from the mine pit, the victim's body was then evacuated to a residential area, before being handed over to the family," he said.

Based on information received by the joint SAR team, at the time of the incident fellow miners tried to save the victim by digging up mining materials manually.

However, after a few hours, the effort was fruitless, so he immediately informed the police about this incident and forwarded it to the Gorontalo Basarnas.

"In the rescue operation, the joint SAR team carried out manual excavation of mining materials," he said.

With the discovery of the victim's body, the operation of the joint SAR team for search and rescue conditions endangered human life at the Bone Bolango Regency gold mining site, was officially declared closed.
