JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna H. Laoly explained the findings of damaged equipment under the auspices of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen PAS) worth Rp200 billion.

Yasonna during a meeting with Commission III of the DPR said that the tools were indeed old age.

"Regarding the equipment of the Directorate General of PAS damaged (a value of) Rp. 200 billion. Indeed, it is old, already out of gear (a light, red.), it should have been replaced by a new one. It remains a BMN (state property), but it has been damaged. Now we are in the process of removing it and it has been approved," Yasonna said during a meeting quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 4.

Yasonna explained that there are procedures that need to be passed before finally state property is replaced with new goods.

Even though it has been a long time, according to him, it should not be disposed of immediately before deletion.

"It becomes a state loss. It could be a problem later. So, the goods are in the warehouse. Some can be used, some can be upgraded, yes, upgraded, but this is in the elimination of old goods that have been replaced by new ones," he said.

If there are detection tools that are outdated, but still used, for example, the detection function becomes not optimal.

"If later the X-ray is used which is outdated, people enter there, maybe they can no longer detect the truth," said Yasonna.

In the same meeting, several members of Commission III of the DPR RI highlighted the problems that are still being experienced by correctional institutions, including detention centers/prisons whose contents exceed their capacity (overcapacity/overcrowded), and the welfare of inmates.

In his presentation, the Minister of Law and Human Rights showed that the allocation of state spending for facilities and infrastructure (sarpras) in 2024 reached Rp1.12 trillion. The allocation of funds is part of the Management Support expenditure post, which has a total value of Rp13.19 trillion.

The Management support includes personnel expenditure (Rp7.89 trillion), office and regional operational expenditure (Rp2.001 trillion), job expenditure and function of all work units (Rp1.97 trillion), and construction of four immigration offices worth Rp200 billion.

The total budget of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights approved in 2024 is IDR 18.39 trillion, or lower than the initial proposal of IDR 24.01 trillion.
