Surabaya ASN Required To Go To Office Use Angkot Every Friday

SURABAYA - State civil servants (ASN) and non-ASN (contract workers) within the Surabaya City Government, East Java, are required to go to the office using public transportation or city transportation (angkot) every Friday.

"This is an effort by the Surabaya City Government in reducing congestion and air pollution in the City of Heroes. Namely, by promoting a Free and Pollution Movement every Friday by not carrying a motorized vehicle," said Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi reported by ANTARA, Friday, September 1.

In fact, he gave an example by cycling from his private residence to the Surabaya City Hall.

"In order to stay healthy, I cycled from house to office. In addition, it also reduces congestion and air pollution," he said.

Because, according to him, before inviting people to use public transportation, all ASN and non-ASN within the Surabaya City Government must provide an example first, including being able to take advantage of public transportation services or cycling when going to work.

"If you don't give an example, then residents are asked to use public transportation. So now friends are using public transportation or cycling," said Cak Eri, his nickname.

The mayor said that the implementation of ASN must use public transportation modes as a trial. Furthermore, the first, second, and third stages of evaluation will be carried out.

"After three times, later all the scope of the city government, both at City Hall and outside City Hall, employees are not allowed to ride motorbikes or cars. But they can ride bicycles or public transportation to reduce congestion and air pollution," he said.

The ban on using motorized vehicles, he continued, had actually been in effect since March 2023. At that time. Even the Surabaya City Government launched the Wira-Wiri Feeder public transportation so that it could be utilized by the entire community.

"We have done it in March, but indeed socialization is not easy to do. So we have prepared Feeder Wira-Wiri, now from Benowo there is Wira-Wiri and live. Then there are Trans Semanggi and Suroboyo Bus, now we don't count all the routes," he said.

However, he said, operational cars in every regional apparatus organization (OPD) are still available when used for outside the office.

"If there is a meeting outside the office, you can use an operational car. God willing, in two weeks we will make sure there will be no more meetings on Friday except for zoom (online)," he said.

In addition, the Mayor ensured that the Surabaya City Government had been integrated with public transportation, starting from Suroboyo Bus, Trans Semanggi Suroboyo, and Feeder Wira-Wiri.

"So we can reduce cars on Friday. While later when we are used to it, we will only be used to it twice a week, now once a week on Friday," said Eri Cahyadi.
