National Police Chief Reveals Potential Vulnerabilities at the 43rd ASEAN Summit, One of which is the Threat of Terrorism

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said there was a potential threat or disturbance that occurred during the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta. Congestion to terrorism are some of them.

"There are several vulnerabilities that we have to guard against because this activity is being carried out in Jakarta," said Sigit to journalists, Friday, September 1.

Congestion is one of the potential disturbances because it cannot be denied that the traffic flow in Jakarta is very high.

Then, the political situation is also on the list of disturbances that could occur during the 43rd ASEAN Summit.

"So of course the escalation of threats starts from the problem of traffic jams, then various dynamics of community activities and also colleagues looking at the dynamics of the existing political situation," he said.

"Of course, this also requires extra security and security from community activities which might disrupt the process of activities at the ASEAN Summit," continued Sigit.

Not only that, the former National Police Criminal Investigation Officer also mentioned the potential for other disturbances such as cyber attacks and criminal acts of terrorism. Therefore, all members are asked to carry out security properly.

"Then we also ask all levels to ensure that other attacks such as cyber attacks, then terrorist threats, then threats to the safety of delegates, especially VIP police, can really be guarded against," said Sigit.

In securing the 43rd ASEAN Summit, the National Police deployed 6,182 personnel, with details of the National Police Headquarters 1,624 personnel, Polda Metro Jaya 3,918 personnel, Polda West Java 320 personnel, and Polda Banten 320 personnel.

Meanwhile, the activities of the 43rd Asean Summit in 2023 will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, where the peak of the Summit will be held on 5 to 7 September 2023.
