Bangkalan Police Arrests National Road Battery Thief

BANGKALAN - Bangkalan Police, East Java, arrested the perpetrators of the theft of public street lighting batteries, namely on the national road connecting four districts on Madura Island.

Bangkalan Police Chief AKBP Febri Isman Jaya explained that the arrest was when the suspect took action on August 1, 2023 and was known by local residents.

"Residents immediately made arrests and reported the incident to the police," said the Police Chief as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 29.

The perpetrator with the initials MY (41) is a resident of West Tambin Hamlet, Karangleman Village, Bangkalan Regency.

At that time, the pelau was about to steal 1 (one) unit of battery valce regulation led acid 6-FM-100 12V100AH, at one of the PJUs on Jalan Raya Petrah Village, Tanah Merah District, at around 03.00 WIB.

"So this suspect was caught red-handed while climbing the PJU pole by 2 residents with the initials MS and MA, both of whom are local residents," he said.

The two witnesses immediately arrested and thwarted the theft. Hearing the theft, residents around the location arrived.

"This suspect had become the target of the residents, fortunately the members immediately arrived at the location and secured the suspect along with the evidence," said Febri.

To investigators, the suspect admitted that the act was his first time. The stolen battery plans to be sold to cover daily needs.

"He admitted that the first time he did it, the goods were planned to be sold to collectors of sixteen (loaks) for Rp. 150 to Rp. 500 thousand," he said, explaining.

For his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 363 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning theft with aggravating the threat of imprisonment for a maximum of 9 years.
