PPPA : In Order To Achieve Inclusive Development, Women's Leadership Needs To Be Driven By Implementation

JAKARTA - Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Bintang Puspayoga said women's leadership must be encouraged to achieve inclusive development and overcome gender inequality.

"Inclusive development is needed to end various forms of inequality in society, one of which is gender inequality. In order to achieve inclusive development, women's leadership is an important point that needs to be encouraged by its implementation," said the Minister of PPPA in a statement, Friday, August 25, was confiscated by Antara.

According to her, women are a milestone in the nation's development that must be in the space to make decisions. For this reason, women must be involved in making policies and have access to control their implementation.

"Women need to be encouraged and given support to make changes and improvements in their families and in the community," he said.

He explained, although the number of women's representation in parliament has increased, the percentage has not yet reached the target of 30 percent.

Based on data from the Women's Participation Rate in Parliament in 2021, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), only 1 in 34 provinces managed to exceed this target, namely Central Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, at the national level, the number of women's representation in the DPR in the last three years tends to fluctuate and has never reached the expected minimum percentage of 17.9 percent in the 2009-2014 period, 17.3 percent in the 2014-2019 period, and 20.5 percent in the 2019-2024 period.

Currently, the number of female regional heads who are still in office until 2023 and 2024 is only 24 people or 4 percent.

Based on the results of the 2022 Regional Innovation Index, of the 24 female regional heads, 5 areas with very innovative predicates, 17 innovative predicates, and only 2 regions with less innovative predicates.

The Minister of PPPA is also committed to encouraging the two less innovative regional heads to take steps to improve in the future.

"Let's together create a safe and comfortable space for women to develop themselves, learn as much knowledge as possible so that we can create independent, resilient, and empowered women," said Bintang.
