JAKARTA - An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter (SR) scale rocked Colombia's capital Bogota Thursday local time according to the US Geological Survey, leaving the frightened people on the road and causing one person to die.
There were no immediate reports of major damage from the earthquake, which was reported by Colombia's national geological agency measuring 6.1 SR.
"The shock is very strong and lasts a long time," said Adrian Alarcon, 43, a local resident who works near Park District 93 in the capital.
"It makes me feel fragile. Life changes in an instant. You can't do anything, you can only run for safety," he continued.
The tragedy occurred in the southeastern part of the capital, where a woman fell to death from an earthquake window, Mayor Claudia Lopez said on Twitter.
"We deeply regret the only reported serious incident: a woman dropped herself from the 10th floor of a residential building in Madelena, which appears to be caused by anxiety. We accompanied those who were with her at home with the medical team," said Lopez.
Meanwhile, the Colombian Congress reported damage to the people's representative building, where the earthquake rocked the plaster decorations that were detached from the ceiling and fell to the table below.
"No one was injured," the people's representative council said in a message posted on Twitter.
The Colombian Civil Defense Agency noted that residents had been evacuated throughout Calvario City, southeast of the capital. Windows in the area were damaged by the earthquake.
