Coordinating Minister For Human Development And Culture Asks Local Governments To Actively Propose Health Workers Needs

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy asked local governments to actively propose the needs of health workers considering that there are still many areas that lack medical personnel.

"Actually, if the local government is well aware, it can be proposed for the needs of its health workers," said Muhadjir as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 15.

Muhadjir said that health problems are part of the concrete government that is a shared responsibility between the central and regional governments.

According to him, there are three main problems in public services that must be a guideline for all policymakers, namely quality, both empowerment and service, quantity or amount that must be prepared, as well as comprehensive equity in each region.

Of the three indicators, he said, most of the problems were in equity. Muhadjir knows that many doctors prefer to work in the city rather than serve in remote areas.

Therefore, Muhadjir admitted that he strongly agrees with the discourse launched by the Minister of Health which will assign health workers with the status of central employees assigned to remote, underdeveloped, and outermost areas.

"It will be assigned from the center only. So that supervision and salary are directly from the central government which is adjusted to the level of difficulties in the area and given special rights to the person concerned. So that it can be controlled," said Muhadjir.

Currently, Indonesia has 1.4 million health workers with 10,347 health centers, 24,808 auxiliary health centers where each auxiliary health center has 8,624 midwives and nurses or 34,76 percent.

Meanwhile, there are 213,670 Posyandu units spread throughout Indonesia. This number still needs to be increased, including health workers who work in it.
